Semi Gloss Or Satin For Painting Kitchen Cabinets. When we painted the cabinets in our other homes, we used semi-gloss paint both times because we wanted a durable, scrubbable finish. But as earlier mentioned, semi-gloss paints tend to amplify surface imperfections, so cabinets that haven't been thoroughly sanded might show undesirable flaws.
Kitchen - Use a satin or semi-gloss paint, which are easier to wipe down. Semi-gloss paints are also highly recommended to be used in areas that children are most likely to dirtify by drawing, as it can be easily washed down. If you have semi-gloss paint in your house already that you want to paint over, satin paint might be the best option.
For example, use a low sheen such as matte or eggshell on the walls, then opt for a semi-gloss or high-gloss sheen on the cabinets.
Old semi-gloss paints sometimes contain lead.
Since semi-gloss finishes amplify imperfections, however, cabinets that have not been properly sanded might show imperfections that a satin finish would hide. Applying both semi-gloss and satin paints on cabinets is quite easy. And they also make a matte finish for a more durable paint specific for wood cabinets.
